I started taking this NOW Butterbur with Feverfew for my seasonal allergies. I was totally amazed that the results - I really didn't expect much! I used to have to take Sudafed and a half of an Alavert or Claritin each day. I now use no OTC meds for my allergies. I also take Milk Thistle before each meal to help keep my liver in tip-top shape. I take the Butterbur 3 times a day also. I highly recommend it!

After I gave this an initial 6 - 8 weeks to get into my system (taking 2 pills a day), it has dramatically reduced the frequency and severity of my migraines. I find this to be much better than the 'take a prescription pill once the migraine hits' approach.

I have seasonal allergies and generally suffer through them without taking meds because the side-effects negate any limited relief. This year the allergies were the worst ever and I was actually bed-ridden and miserable one day and decided to search the internet for natural cures. What I read about Butterbur sounded good (a study showing that it worked as well as prescribed meds but without side effects) but I wasn't expecting anything dramatic.
Well, I was very happily surprised. I had relief from the first herbal capsule! I have found that herbs can be mild and slow acting compared to allopathic medications so this quick effect was unexpected. I've been taking three caps a day for about 10 days and have been symptom free! This is particularly significant because the pollen count has been high much of this time.
One potential problem with taking Butterbur regularly, according to [...], is that it can be hard on the liver unless the pyrrolizidine alkaloids are removed. NOW does remove these, so it is safe for long-term use.

I am trying this to help relieve migraine headaches - I have seen butterbur mentioned in several magazine articles and it is supposed to be amazing! This particular item has a rather strong odor which really made it unpleasant at first, but I have kept taking it and either the smell is not as strong now or I have gotten used to it - but I have not yet noticed any relief from the headaches. I plan to keep it up for a while longer ( I know that some products take a while to get built up in your system). This one has a higher dosage and is somewhat less expensive than some of the other versions I have checked on.

NOW Butterbur
Butterbur (Petasites hybridus) is a native shrub of Europe, North America, and Asia that has been used by the herbalists for centuries. Modern scientific studies have demonstrated that Butterbur supports healthy blood flow to the brain and healthy neurological function. Petasins, the active constituents in Butterbur, have been shown to play a role in minimizing the frequency and severity of neurological discomfort triggered by bright lights and stress that occasionally occurs in healthy individuals.
In addition, Butterbur may help to maintain balanced seasonal immune responses. NOW® Butterbur is free of harmful levels of Pyrrolizidine Alkaloids (PA's), so it is safe to use regularly.*
